Thau Lagoon

More than 100 species of animal live in its waters. 80% of France's breeding birds and 82% of its wintering birds are found here. 400 plant species (aquatic and terrestrial flora) populate its area. It is a 27-minute drive from the Altéa campsite.

The Aresquiers wood

Les Aresquiers is an area of 179 hectares covered in pine forests (holm oaks, kermes oaks, Aleppo pines and maritime pines). The area is ideal for a variety of activities, including hiking, birdwatching and water sports (kayaking, surfing, windsurfing, etc.). Les Aresquiers is also famous for its beach. Of the campsites in the Hérault, the waterside Altéa campsite is the closest (4.7 km apart).

The beaches of the Hérault

The Hérault, the southern part of the Languedoc region, lies on the shores of the Mediterranean, hence its many heavenly beaches. In Vic-La-Gardiole itself, you'll find the pretty Aresquiers beach, ideal for water sports. The Grande Conque beach, the most beautiful in Cap d'Agde with its grey-black sand. Also in Cap d'Agde (40 minutes from the campsite), you have the Richelieu beach, a paradise for children. In Sète, 20 minutes from the 3-star campsite, you have the Lazaret beach.

The Gardiole massif

Around ten kilometres from the Altéa campsite is the Gardiole massif. This limestone mountain is one of the most beautiful hiking routes in France. At the top, you have a magnificent view of the Ingril ponds and the picturesque villages of Languedoc-Roussillon. The Hérault Gorges

Lovers of water sports, rejoice! As well as being a magnificent place to discover, the Hérault gorges are a mecca for water-based activities. As well as swimming, climbing and canoeing, you can visit Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert, listed as one of France's most beautiful villages. Or head to Saint-Jean-de-Fos, a medieval village famous for its glazed pottery. All this is about a 40-minute drive from the campsite, which has a heated swimming pool and is situated by the sea.
